Seven basic symbols are used in Kwanzaa celebrations. They remind people of good things they have achieved during the year and can accomplish in the future. They also remind people of their ancestors and of different ideas about African culture. This kit includes four of the seven symbols to share with your students. Included are: one mkekea: the mat on which the items are placed; one kinara: the seven armed wooden candle holder which holds the seven candles; mishumaa saba: the candles, black, red and green which are placed in the kinara; one kikombe cha umoja: the unity cup from which a liquid (usually juice or water) called a libation is poured to honor the ancestors. Also included are two books on Kwanzaa; two copies of each and Seven Candles of Kwanzaa DVD.
