Angel Island in San Francisco Bay, California, was the immigration gateway to the United States from the Pacific Ocean between 1910 and 1940. Historians, tallying incomplete government reports, have estimated that one million immigrants passed through Angel Island during those years. While Ellis Island welcomed immigrants, Angel Island guarded against unwelcome, mostly Chinese immigrants. (12 posters/teacher's guide).
