More than any other decade in 20th century U. S. history, the 1960s was the embodiment of controversy, turmoil, and social upheaval. The serenity of an isolationist 1950s "Cold War" America was shattered by a progressively violent civil rights movement, by America's entry into the Vietnam Conflict, and by heated anti-war demonstrations on the part of America's youth. The "domino principle" (the threat of a chain reaction of communist takeovers), ostensibly the impetus for America's entry into the Vietnam Conflict, was viewed with intense skepticism by an increasingly vocal minority, signifying a new sense of distrust in America's political leaders and their domestic and foreign policies. Through rare film footage and compelling music of the times, this unnarrated program allows the viewer to experience the tumultuous 960s, to sense the same confusion and inner turmoil felt by many Americans, and to question their own beliefs and ideals with the wisdom of retrospection.
