In part four, The Civil War, it was the darkest period in U.S. history, a time when American soldiers turned new, more leathal weapons on each other and tore the country apart. Events covered in part 4: 1846 - United States declaires war on Mexico, 1861 - Eleven states comprise the Confederacy, 1862 - Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 - Lincoln delivers his Gettysburg Address; fall of Vicksburg and 1865 - Lee surrenders at Appomattox.
