Rapidly changing demographics can make parents feel uncomfortable about getting involved in your school community, and the lack of parental involvement can lead to learning obstacles for your students. This program explores a culturally diverse elementary school where educators can provide a welcoming environment for all parents and families and investigates the following strategies: Start small and target just one or two grades, Create relaxed settings that blend ethnic groups, Go beyond parades and food fairs to make diversity a part of ongoing school culture, and Involve all staff - not just specialists and teachers - in planning and volunteering.
