What was life like for an enslaved person in America? This program explores the daily life and customs of enslaved children and adults from colonial times through Emancipation. What foods did they eat? How did they celebrate marriage? What role did singing play in their lives? Through live-action vignettes, reenactments, archival photographs and animated maps, students will come to understand the hardships and plight of African-Americans living under the institution of slavery.
